The first meeting was held in Montevideo, Uruguay (Universidad de la República), between November 6th and 10th.

A postgraduate course was given by Dr. Iñaki Trocóniz (Universidad de Navarra, Spain) and Dr. Marc Lavielle (Inria, France), and the 1st Latin American Pharmacometrics Symposium was celebrated, where also participated as speakers: Dr. Paula Schaiquevich (CONICET, Argentine), Dr. Teresa Dalla Costa (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), Dr. Ignacio Cortínez (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile), Dr. Andrés Olivares-Morales (F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., Switzerland, Switzerland), Dr. Marcela Aragón (Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Colombia), Dr. Ignacio Hernández (Centro de Isótopos, Cuba), Dr. Elba Romero (Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico), Dr. Gonzalo Suárez (Universidad de la República, Uruguay) and Dr. Manuel Ibarra (Universidad de la República, Uruguay).

El primer encuentro tuvo lugar entre el 6 y el 10 de noviembre de 2017 en Montevideo, Uruguay (Universidad de la República), en donde investigadores de más de diez países se reunieron para participar de un curso de posgrado dictado por el Dr. Iñaki F. Trocóniz (Universidad de Navarra, España) y el Dr. Marc Lavielle (Inria, Francia), y del primer Simposio Internacional de Farmacometría en América Latina. Además de los mencionados investigadores, participaron como expositores durante el Simposio: Dra. Paula Schaiquevich (CONICET, Argentina), Dra. Marc Lavielle

Marc Lavielle is a statistician specialized in computational statistics and healthcare applications. Marc is responsible for supervising the collaborative research program between Inria and Lixoft. He created and directed the Monolix team at Inria. Marc Lavielle is also the creator of the SAEM estimation algorithm, which was a breakthrough for the study of mixed effect models in drug development.

Iñaki F. Trocóniz received his PhD in Pharmacokinetics in 1991 from the University of Navarra. He has occupied postdoctoral research positions in the University of California at San Francisco, University of Uppsala (Sweden), and Eli & Lilly (UK), respectively. His main focus of research is related to population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modelling.
